Lab Workers at Kuraray America Inc. in La Porte, TX vote to join ICWUC Local 900C
On Wednesday, October 9th, 71% of the lab analysts at the Kuraray America Inc. plant in La Porte, Texas, joined ICWUC Local 900C. Kuraray is a global chemical company, and Kuraray America Inc produces specialty chemical, fiber and resin production. Kuraray hired union busting lawyers that tried to stop the lab analysts from being part of the same unit as their colleagues in the production and maintenance departments; as well as employing captive audience meetings.
Despite these challenges and intimidation tactics, these workers persevered and unionized because they wanted a voice in the workplace and the same benefits as their unionized colleagues and hold fast to the fact that UNITED WE BARGAIN DIVIDED WE BEG.
This victory achieved a wall-to-wall unit at the plant. This victory couldn’t have been achieved without the determination of the lab analysts as well as the leadership of Gilbert Hinojosa – President of Local 900C, Kerry Phillips – ICWUC International Rep and Luis Cadavid – ICWUC Organizer.
